Close Enough for Rock'n Roll - Nazareth (1976)

This is my favorite album by Nazareth. I’ve always loved the band, but I often felt that most of their albums sounded a bit below average. This one, however, sounds exceptional from start to finish. Recorded and mixed at Le Studio in Morin Heights, Québec, and produced by guitarist Manny Charlton, it really stands apart from the rest of their discography—and it’s absolutely worth tracking down. Manny’s guitar work is outstanding throughout, and the arrangements are remarkably tight and well executed. The whole band sounds incredible here. It’s surprising how rarely this album gets mentioned, and unfortunately, it’s still not available on Apple Music or Spotify (I have it on vinyl). Manny Charlton never quite received the recognition he deserved, IMO, and this album is proof of his great talent. Just listen to “Lift the Lid”—his guitar absolutely rips through the track, with great tone and feel.

Mon album préféré de Nazareth. J’ai toujours adoré le groupe, mais j’ai souvent trouvé que la plupart de leurs albums sonnaient un peu en dessous de la moyenne. Celui-ci, en revanche, est exceptionnel du début à la fin. Enregistré et mixé au Studio Morin-Heights, au Québec, et produit par le guitariste Manny Charlton, il se démarque vraiment du reste de leur discographie—et il vaut absolument la peine d’être découvert. Le travail de guitare de Manny est remarquable tout au long de l’album, et les arrangements sont particulièrement serrés et bien exécutés. Le groupe au complet est incroyable ici. Il est surprenant de constater à quel point cet album est rarement mentionné, et malheureusement, il n’est toujours pas disponible sur Apple Music ou Spotify (je l’ai en vinyle). Manny Charlton n’a jamais vraiment reçu la reconnaissance qu’il méritait, à mon avis, et cet album prouve la grandeur de son grand talent. Il suffit d’écouter « Lift the Lid » — sa guitare déchire littéralement du début à la fin.
